Regeneration in Wales – Key Issues: Regenerating the Small Towns of Wales

Dates: 7th April 2011

Times: 5.30pm

Speakers: Jon Fox, Capita Symonds and James Brown, Powell Dobson Urbanists

Location: Glamorgan Building, Cardiff University

Overview

The fifth in the WISERD/CREW joint seminar series on issues of regeneration in Wales. ‘Retail led’ regeneration has long been seen as the core solution for halting the decline of Welsh towns. However, finding champion retailers willing to invest has become increasingly difficult and the wider impact of such strategies are increasingly questioned by a more local perspective on economic development.  Can a new model of town centre renewal be created which revives a multi-functional role for town centres which transcends the sole retail function and puts Welsh towns at the heart of social, cultural and economic life.
