Training and Capacity Building
Quantitative staff in WISERD will build on the ESRC/HEFCW Scoping Study into Quantitative Methods by identifying needs in the area of intermediate and advanced research methods in quantitative analysis. In collaboration with the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) at Southampton University, staff will promote methodological excellence in the areas of quantitative and mixed method research as well as seeking synergies between research centres.
Overall, the training and capacity building programme has the objective of delivering a step change in the methodological skills and techniques used by the social science community in Wales to ensure that Wales is at the forefront of the application of advanced quantitative methodologies in social science research.
A Training and Capacity Building Strategy Group for Quantitative Methods chaired by Professor David Blackaby from Swansea University has been established in order to discuss how best to implement a training programme to address the needs identified in the ESRC/HEFCW Scoping Study and from other information sources. This group includes academic staff from the partner institutions as well as representation from the Office for National Statistics and the Welsh Government. A programme of training events will be publicised soon after the conclusion of these discussions.
