Local Knowledge in Context Research Programme (KLiC)

The ‘local knowledge in context’ research programme (KLiC) comes under the WISERD Knowing Localities theme and is concerned with the development and testing of ethnographic and qualitative methods for understanding place and locality in the context of community participation, regeneration and sustainablility. This suite of qualitative fieldwork projects focuses on detailed and ethnographic explorations of locality, place and the articulation of local knowledges. The projects are being utilized to explore different perceptions of locality, the ways in which embedded experience impacts upon local knowledges, the relations between local and other forms of knowledge, and the ways in which knowledges are represented in everyday social worlds and spaces. The projects make a significant contribution to the methodological development and research capacity building agendas of WISERD.

The projects within this programme are as follows:

Biomapping: Methodological Trials
Local Knowledge, Spatial Practice and Urban Patrol
Safeguarding Children and Young People in Local Communities
Young People and Place
