The WISERD Collaborative Virtual Research Environment
One of the principal aims of WISERD is the development of a virtual environment designed to facilitate effective and innovative collaborative working within a multi-disciplinary research group. The aim is to permit a distributed group of researchers to access integrated geo-spatial (and non-geospatial) socio-economic meta-data and data for Wales.
The WISERD Data Integration Team is uniquely positioned for delivering a novel type of research environment – the WISERD Collaborative Environment or WISCE (pronounced Whisky). WISCE allows WISERD researchers across different institutions to access a set of common tools, datasets and resources, facilitating cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional working. Tools include blogs, on-line forums, calendars, document stores, and secure file sharing facilities. These are hosted within the same location and badged as WISERD, allowing researchers to develop a collective identity as WISERD researchers, regardless of the institution they work in.
WISCE has been in operation since 1st February 2010 and can be accessed here (user login is required).
