WISERD Away Days

Away days were organised for all WISERD staff and affiliated staff on the 11th-12th February 2010. These took place at Gregynog, mid-Wales, and enabled all who attended to discuss current and potential future research.

WISERD Bangor Seminar Series

The Bangor  School of Social Sciences seminar series runs annually, with lunchtime seminars held fortnightly. WISERD Bangor  are organising the series on behalf of the school during 09/10 and this may become a regular fixture in coming years. Presentations cover a wide range of topics and research areas in Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, with some seminars reflecting WISERD key themes of identity, ethnicity, place, space and  public engagement, particularly but not exclusively in a Welsh context. Recent highlights have included  Professor Charlotte Williams OBE, Keele University, talking about her recent research on ethnic minorities and civic participation in Wales. Two seminars have been joint events, one held in collaboration with the Religious Studies department in Bangor, and one joint  event with The British Society of Criminology – Wales branch.  Guest  speakers ranging from recent postdocs to Emeritus Professors have come from across the UK as well as Germany, and several WISERD staff members including WISERD director Huw Beynon are also participating in this  years seminar series.
