Biography
Research Interests
Rob maintains an ongoing interest in the use of Web-GIS for enhancing public participation in rural and urban planning, with a particular emphasis on evaluating the potential of GIS-based digital landscape visualisation techniques for promoting citizen involvement in wind farm planning in the UK. Previous related research has included investigating the performance of high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) for visibility analysis. Rob has also produced a review of the published research literature in the field of GIS for hazard and disaster management.
Current Research
Rob is currently working on the development of an online GIS-based searchable meta-database of primary and secondary socio-economic data for Wales. This work brings together several
distinct but related strands of research including Web-GIS, Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) spatial and non-spatial meta-data development and management, quantitative and qualitative GIS and geo-visualisation.
